The Schmalz Scramble is a First Tee – South Puget Sound event in honor of Richard Schmalz Jr. Richard was a devoted husband, loving son, fantastic friend, and First Tee’s Board Chair. He was in love with the game of golf and the experiences it could provide young and old alike. Richard’s sudden passing in 2024 was a shock to his entire community, leaving a void in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. To honor Richard’s zest for life, as well as his love of family, friends, and golf, we are hosting a scramble golf tournament followed by dinner and a live auction.

Proceeds from this event will benefit First Tee – South Puget Sound’s community partners, Richard’s most passionate avenue of the organizations mission. Richard served on the board of directors for four years and was passionate about First Tee’s impact on the community through the game of golf and the Nine Core Values (honesty, respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, perseverance, judgment, confidence, and courtesy). Proceeds will provide financial assistance for community partners and all families who need help in order to allow youth to experience the game of golf, just as Richard would have wanted. A portion of ticket sales will also go to his children’s, Charlie and Camden, 529 accounts to help set their future education up for success.

First Tee – South Puget Sound is a 501(c)3, all sponsorships and donations are tax deductible: 45-1781054.
